Here is a very interesting story on Politico that seems to take some of the steam out of their middling prediction of how the Democrats will take the House, but not by much.
If House Republicans are panicking, I don’t see how the House is remotely going to stay in Republican hands.
Two days out from an expected Democratic takeover of the House, Republicans focused on the chamber are profoundly worried that Trump’s obsession with all things immigration will exacerbate their losses. Many of these same Republicans welcomed Trump’s initial talk about the migrant caravan and border security two weeks ago, hoping it would gin up the GOP base in some at-risk, Republican-held districts.

They heard “get rid of birthright citizenship” and went, “uh-oh”.
These guys are the canaries in the coal mines. Something tells me that they have internal polling that is telling them something very bad. This might be what Nancy Pelosi was alluding to on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” about a week ago. We have also seen some tightening on the Senate side in favor of Democrats. Now, I don’t know about the Senate. I have always thought that it was a reach. Maybe I’m wrong. I certainly hope that I am.
In Orange County, California, a former conservative bastion once known as Reagan Country, Democratic candidate Harley Rouda said Trump’s heated immigration rhetoric has turned off moderate voters. Rouda, who’s now in a neck-and-neck battle to defeat GOP incumbent Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, said “we are seeing these people coming into our campaign.”
“What we’ve seen with moderate Republicans and independents is an increasing frustration with the president of the United States, pitting Americans against Americans — trying to divide us instead of uniting us,’’ he said at his Costa Mesa campaign headquarters on Sunday.
If this is happening in the suburbs, is this also affecting some Senate races? They also mention that some Texas congressional districts are in danger of flipping. How much will it help Beta O’Rourke, for instance?
I have no idea. Just thought I would put this diary out. It’s my way of coping.
Here’s hoping.
