Today, Daily Kos Founder and Publisher Markos Moulitsas released the organization’s extraordinary fundraising and get-out-the-vote activism data for the cycle.
In 2017-2018, the Daily Kos community donated over $8.7 million to endorsed candidates and campaigns from almost 1.9 million individual donations, with an average contribution of $4.60.
Of that total, Daily Kos raised over $2.1 million in Democratic Nominee Funds—contributions given to support the ousting of 43 potentially vulnerable Republican members of Congress from key seats, even before a Democratic nominee had been selected.
Daily Kos raised over $871,000 in seven gubernatorial contests, and, separately, more than $870,000 to support candidates in state legislative elections. Additionally, Daily Kos endorsed candidates running in state Supreme Court races for the first time this cycle, raising over $31,000 to elect progressive justices in Michigan and North Carolina.
The Daily Kos community donated over $6.3 million to Democratic candidates for the U.S. House and Senate.
Daily Kos generated over 11.5 million sign-ups to email lists of allied organizations and candidates, providing them with critical funding and volunteer resources.
Over the course of the past month, Daily Kos has connected over 50,000 grassroots volunteers with campaigns across the country for GOTV efforts.
“The outpouring of action from the Daily Kos community this cycle proved, once again, that Daily Kos is the hub of the progressive movement,” said Moulitsas. “Already engaged, Trump’s election supercharged our members' activism, allowing Daily Kos to expand beyond its marquee focus on top-ticket races to include crucial contests further down the ballot. Meanwhile, battles over the future of the Affordable Care Act, the GOP's tax cuts for the rich, and the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court further energized and motivated our community to take the actions essential to Democrats’ success today.”
Daily Kos has led the way in supporting Democrats across the country this cycle by analyzing and investing in key races nationwide.
