The entire town has evacuated. The flames started on the east side but then jumped to the west. Paradise is on a ridge and there is poor road access to safety.
One of my sons drove through flames to get a client out.
Firefighters are pulling people out of cars, telling them they can’t make it, and having them shelter inside large concrete buildings like a Walgreens.
Fire is spreading at greater than an acre per second.
My daughter the social worker got a call from an oldster client who was saying goodbye — he can’t really drive and he could see flames on both sides of his house. Of course she called the police to send someone, but who can get there?
The hospital is already gone. They managed to evacuate first.

Update: son in law is working at an evac shelter as a counselor. Don’t know when he’ll get home.
Kids left almost everything behind. Who knows if their house will survive?
Firefighters were working first on saving lives, second on fighting fire, as it appropriate.

Per the Chico Enterprise Record the number of burnt homes may have reached 1,000.
Hundreds of calls for welfare checks have been received. Perhaps as many as 50,000 people have been evacuated; the town of Magalia is just up the hill from Paradise and has a population of 11,000, plus smaller towns.
Paradise town hall caught about 2:30. It’s pretty close to the middle of town.
