So what if it turns out that there is a case for treason. That that is exactly what the president and the people around him did.
18 U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”
Offering to overturn the Magnitsky Act in exchange for help becoming president looks like it fits within that description. So if there is a pretty clear case to be made that Trump or part of his team has committed treason… would obstructing justice and preventing those charges from being brought against members of the White house team fall under giving aid and comfort to enemies?
And if that case can be made… that the republican leadership’s actions (talking Ryan, Nunes, Grassley, Mcconnel, etc here.) can be construed as Treasonous against the United States. What would such people be doing to protect themselves? Because it sure looks like what they are doing these days.
1. Obstructing justice by questing the credibility of our country’s legal enforcement team.
2. Triggering rapid changes in leadership.
3. Forcing investigators to stop work through government shut down.
4. Defunding government.
5. Lie. Lie. Lie.
7. Lie some more.
8. Selective leaking of intelligence information.
9. Release and propagate Propaganda (twitter feed, nunez memo, FBI text memo, etc)
Its either Trump is impeached and either he or his team members hang for their crimes… or the vote is going to be about as real as Russias . Which is to say our representative republic is dead.
