J'accuse!
I accuse the Republican Party and all Republicans who have not openly and forcefully denounced Donald John Trump – and taken actions in conformance thereof – of the following:
-
Deliberately ignoring FACTS proving the Russian Federation and Vladimir Putin specifically instituted a program to destabilize the 2016 Presidential election via, among other actions, “bots” and social media buys of ads promoting false statements about Hillary Clinton;
-
Refusing to require under oath testimony of all witnesses by accepting assertions of privilege which have no basis in law;
-
Falsely attacking the character and impugning the motivations of career federal law enforcement officials and employees, all to the future detriment of the public trust in these organizations;
-
Promoting fictitious narratives whose only purpose is to shield Donald John Trump from the equal application of the laws of the United States; and
-
Refusing to act in any responsible manner to safeguard the integrity of the 2018 and 2020 elections.
In support of these accusations, it is only necessary to point to the facts. These indeed are facts, regardless of Republican attempts to label these facts as lies. Contrary to Republican assertions on a nearly daily, if not hourly basis, that the facts are but Democratic and/or alleged “Deep State” lies, these facts are as follows:
-
All Intelligence Community components have assessed the underlying information, much of which is classified due to its manner of collection, and concluded the Russian Federation embarked on an attempt to influence the 2016 Presidential election by hacking into the DNC email server and selectively releasing that information in a manner to hinder the candidacy of Hillary Clinton and support that of Donald John Trump;
-
Intelligence Community components concluded and social media Congressional testimony confirms Russian “bots” promulgated false narratives during the 2016 election;
-
Donald John Trump's son, Donald Trump, Jr., Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, and son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Russian Federation agents in Trump Tower in New York City on June 7, 2016 in an attempt to obtain alleged “dirt” on Hillary Clinton;
-
Donald John Trump engaged in an effort to mis-characterize the June 7 meeting during the return flight on Air Force One from Germany as relating only to “adoptions” of Russian children by preparing and overseeing the production of a memo to that effect;
-
Donald John Trump repeatedly and publicly called for the Russian Federation to hack the emails of Hillary Clinton;
-
Donald John Trump refused to release his tax returns to support his allegation that he had, and currently has, no connections – personal or financial – with Russians in general or the Russian Federation;
-
House Intelligence Committee chair David Nunes embarked on a laughable effort to shield Donald John Trump by undermining the investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller (Nunes accepted White House information late at night then breathlessly and publicly returned to the White House to proclaim he had found information that the White House needed to be made aware of, otherwise known as the “Nunes Midnight Run”);
-
That same David Nunes then commissioned the Republican staff of the House Intelligence Committee to create a “memo” purportedly showing malfeasance of the FBI and DOJ in obtaining a FISA warrant to surveil Carter Page, a Trump campaign operative. Nunes did not review the underlying documentation in support of the original warrant, nor the subsequent three (3) renewals (all approved by different FISC judges); Republican House Intelligence Committee member Trey Gowdy did review the underlying documentation and concluded the “memo” did not in any way impugn the Russia investigation;
-
Congressional committees have failed to require witnesses to fully testify as to their contacts with and/or involvement in Russian efforts to undermine the integrity of the 2016 election by allowing said witnesses to simply refuse to answer, to refuse to answer based on a non-existent “privilege” or to refuse to answer on the basis of an alleged privilege which may be asserted in the future;
-
Republicans have attacked the character and professionalism of career FBI agents on the basis of one (1) text which, when placed in context, involved a joke of a “secret society”. These two agents, romantically involved, were removed from the Special Counsel's investigation when the text was discovered in order to avoid even the appearance of impropriety;
-
Republicans have refused to consider any of the allegations of impropriety of Donald John Trump and his immediate family in receiving financial benefit to themselves and/or the Trump organizations from their government activities;
-
Republicans have refused to condemn the multitude of verifiable lies uttered by Donald John Trump during his presidency;
-
Republicans have refused to condemn Donald John Trump’s attacks on the Fourth Estate (the media) which directly attacks a cornerstone of the American democracy;
-
Republicans have refused to take any action to thwart future attacks on the 2018 and 2020 elections, thereby drawing into question public confidence in the results of the elections.
I accuse the Republican Party and all Republicans who have not openly and forcefully denounced Donald John Trump – and taken actions in conformance thereof – of being an existential threat to the continuation of the United States of America as a representative democracy.
I accuse the Republican Party and all Republicans who have not openly and forcefully denounced Donald John Trump – and taken actions in conformance thereof – of being unworthy of the rights and privileges conferred by the Constitution and they are, as a result, Un-American.
J'accuse!
