Donald Trump recently said that not only was he willing to talk with special counsel Robert Mueller, but he was eager to do it. From the New York Times:
“I’m looking forward to it, actually,” Mr. Trump said of talking to Mr. Mueller, answering months of speculation over whether he was willing to submit to questions from the special counsel, who is also believed to be looking into whether the Trump campaign aided Moscow’s effort and whether the president sought to thwart the inquiry itself.
“Here’s the story, just so you understand,” Mr. Trump said during an impromptu question-and-answer session with reporters in the West Wing. “There’s been no collusion whatsoever. There’s no obstruction whatsoever, and I’m looking forward to it.”
Now the New York Times is reporting his lawyers don’t want Trump to speak to Robert Mueller for fear that he will perjure himself. Seriously, their preventive defense is that Trump can’t talk to Mueller because everyone knows he’ll get caught in lies. That was enough to set off MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, who looked directly at the camera to let his No. 1 fan know that his own lawyers think he’s too stupid to testify. WATCH the brutal analysis (with full transcript) below:
[CNN CLIP OF ANDERSON COOPER TALKING TO REP. LEE ZELDIN]
>>> REP. ZELDIN: Probably the biggest risk if he was talking to his own attorneys with regards to a meeting, is just a trap. Michael Flynn didn't get in trouble for underlying activities that he was being asked about. The fact that you know by when Peter strzok and the others were asking about it, he didn't tell the truth. Same thing with pap tap louse, pleading guilty to lying to the FBI.
ANDERSON COOPER: That's not a trap. That's just lying.
[End CNN clip]
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Mika Brzezinski,Republican congressman warning, Lee Zeldon warning president trump not to get in trouble.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Now congressmen, Republican congressmen are going on CNN and saying that the president is too stupid to talk to Mueller.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Well, they watch him on TV, Joe, they get concerned.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: They think that he's not smart enough. Is that Lee Zeldon guy really comparing Donald J. Trump to George Papadopoulos?
He's basically saying don't do it, Mr. President, Bob Mueller is a lot smarter than you are. You're too stupid and you're going to lie. Don't listen to them. Like Paul Simon said, I get the presidential seal.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: So that is reportedly the same advice --
JOE SCARBOROUGH: And your lawyers? Who are your lawyers?
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: That trump's lawyers are giving.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: They tell the "Times," they're afraid you're going to lie.
A quick fact check from our staff and we can confirm: Donald Trump is in fact too stupid not to get caught lying to the special counsel.
