House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is holding the House floor this morning to read statements from Dreamers, the young people protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program whose protected status is ending thanks to Trump. Pelosi announced at the beginning of her remarks that she will oppose the budget deal leadership is working on until she has a commitment from Speaker Paul Ryan for a floor vote addressing the Dreamers.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says she and many fellow Democrats will oppose an expected bipartisan budget deal unless Republicans allow the chamber to vote on legislation protecting immigrants. […]
The Senate's two top leaders have been nearing a bipartisan deal that would avert a shutdown, provide spending boosts for the Pentagon and domestic programs over the next two years.
But Pelosi said on the House floor that because House Speaker Paul Ryan has yet to promise an immigration vote, the emerging budget pact "does not have my support, nor does it have the support of a large number of members of our caucus."
Ryan has said that he won't allow any bill to come to the floor unless Trump will sign it, effectively making himself obsolete. Pelosi is telling him he has to do his job, because someone had to do it.
Go, Nancy!
