For over four hours now, Nancy Pelosi has been using an obscure House rule to hold the floor and defend Dreamers and DACA. Surrounded by other members of the Democratic caucus, she’s reading letters from DACA recipients and Dream Act advocates.
As of now, she’s getting a fraction of the coverage that the new video of Trump’s bald spot is.
You can watch it from the beginning here, or pick up the livestream on C-SPAN.org.
Pelosi is refusing to back any spending bill that doesn’t protect Dreamers. She’s also calling for a vote on the Dream Act under "Queen of the Hill" rules, which is, frankly, a brilliant idea. The oversimplified version is that House votes are done as either "King of the Hill" (the last version of a bill to pass is the one that's sent to the Senate) or "Queen of the Hill" (the version of a bill that gets the most support is the one that's sent to the Senate). This is a good way to split the anti-immigrant extremists in the GOP from the rest of the caucus. And I have no doubt that it will fail, because Paul Ryan will stick with his cowardly devotion to the Hastert Rule, because he lacks even a thimble's worth of feck.
Leader Pelosi is definitely living up to the title today.
