Now that "Fair and Balanced”'has been retired to the national sarcasm hall of fame, Fox News needs a new slogan. And they have one.
Fox News on Monday unveiled its new tagline “Real News. Real Honest Opinion” in a series of advertisements featuring its top news and commentary stars.
Leave it to the Murdoch family to respond to one of the most dangerous anti-democratic trends in the nation—the far-right declaration that all news they don't want to hear is "fake”—by doubling down. They really are peaches. Let's hope the history books devote a good, long chapter to how this one collection of cash-grubbing, multiple-pervert-enabling sociopaths did such lasting damage to so many nations.
“Fox is the one place where dissent is allowed,” primetime star Tucker Carlson claims in the ad.
Remember when Tucker Carlson was trying his level best, on CNN, to be a smart-guy conservative pundit back in the days before a late night comedian went on the show to hand him his behind in a carryout bag? Good times.
Ratings leader Sean Hannity also appears in the ads, touting Fox’s opinion side.
Which is going to be awkward when Hannity finally gets booted from the network after losing every last one of his advertisers. The network may not have standards for their anchors, but the captains of American industry have been increasingly wary of associating their brands and products with the sort of frothing conspiracy shouting that Sean has been diving into, pre-and-post Trump election. Glenn Beck was fired for a lot less, but that was back when somebody at the network thought they ought to pretend at, you know, "standards." Those days are over, baby! "Real News"(TM) it is!
