In writing about why he placed Paul Manafort on 24-hour home lockdown, U S District Judge T S Ellis III (aka “Ellis Three-Sticks”?) wrote in his decision. . .
“Given the nature of the charges against the defendant and the apparent weight of the evidence against him, defendant faces the very real possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison,” wrote Ellis, who recommended that Manafort be kept on “24-hour-a-day lockdown” at his residence in Alexandria, Virginia. Manafort is allowed out for medical, legal, and court appearances. Period.
Also, Judge Ellis a man who, if not already, will soon be known as a very discerning judge of character, wrote. . .
“The defendant is a person of great wealth who has the financial means and international connections to flee and remain at large, as well as every incentive to do so,” the judge wrote.
Apparently not a squeak was heard coming from Manafort at that restriction. Could it be that after considering which is the lesser of two weevils he decided that a long life behind bars was better than a short one on a park bench?
