At 6 p.m. today, David Hogg, one of the organizers of #MarchForOurLives tweeted the news about their new effort to keep the movement going:
They are calling on us — ALL of us — to demand town hall meetings with our Congressional Representatives on April 7. Our job? To put them on the record with regard to whether they support common sense gun reform. To make them say “yes” or “no.” To make them say whether they will take money from the NRA. This, too, is a “yes” or “no” question.
In Court, a lawyer may ask (as I have done) that the Judge direct a recalcitrant witness to answer a “yes” or “no” question. in the court of public opinion, in town halls, it up to all of us to press them until they do.
These amazing kids are not quitting. Yes, they are young and resilient. But, yes, too, they are just five weeks and a short handful of days from having their lives turned upside down and their friends murdered. Yet, they are still organizing and speaking and pressing forward; we owe it to them to have their backs. They are not stopping and we cannot stop either.
My Congressional Representative (Don Beyer, VA-08) is pro-March and anti-NRA, but I will be calling him to hold a town hall, because it’s so good to have those who support the movement make their voices heard, too. And I’m more than happy to travel a few miles to put Barbara Comstock (VA-10) on the spot. I’d sure like to know what she has to say.
Other ways to TAKE ACTION NOW:
The NRA and their sockpuppets and sick supporters are working overtime to trash these brave kids. I will not stand for this, and neither should you.
We cannot give up.
I collected dozens of tweets yesterday from #MarchForOurLives marches in deeply red parts of our country, including Kansas and Tennessee and Oklahoma and Mississippi and Alabama and South Carolina. I would post them, but I wanted to get this new call to action up as soon as possible. And I believe they would support this headline. It was not just hundreds of thousands of Americans — but MILLIONS — who marched yesterday.
Our own Joan McCarter had this great diary about Boise, Idaho. There are clips in that diary about marches in other deep red parts of America. If we are winning in Boise, we are winning. Keep the pressure on.
Because this, too:
And this:
And this:
And this:
We MUST do our part. We owe it to these patriotic children we have failed. The time is NOW.
