Received this e-mail today from the Council for a Livable World:
The potential for a tremendous sweep by national security progressives this November looks better than ever.
While there are more than seven months until the mid-term elections, the recent special election victory by Conor Lamb in a district carried by the President by 20 points and the astonishing upset by Doug Jones in the Alabama Senate election suggest that a majority of this country rejects President Trump’s foreign and domestic priorities.
With five days to go before this critical Federal Election Commission deadline, Council-endorsed candidates need a boost to propel them to victory. Will you support our candidates to help them win in November?
President Trump’s foreign and national security policies must be put in check. A Congress full of national security progressives can work to prevent the President’s worst impulses from becoming reality, like his embrace of new nuclear capabilities and push for a nearly unlimited Pentagon budget without any accountability.
These incumbents are hard-fought progressive national security champions, and we need to keep them in Congress:
Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), long-time progressive national security champion and 2016 Democratic Vice Presidential nominee, will likely face an extreme hawk in November. Kaine is a wise member of the Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees who is trying to rein in the President's war-making powers.
Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) is facing one of the toughest re-elections in the country, made more difficult by millions in outside spending against her. Baldwin consistently votes for the Council’s priorities and is only narrowly ahead in a state that went for President Trump.
Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is running in a state the President carried in 2016. His opponent is an extreme hawk who will support the President’s national security agenda. The incumbent needs help to charge across the finish line.
Political experts and media analysts are watching the end of this first quarter reports for clues about the outcome in November. Will you consider a contribution to each of these candidates before the March 31 deadline?
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
John Tierney
