Fox “News” has been America’s leading source for mainstreaming right-wing propaganda and lies for three decades, since Ronald Reagan put the Fairness Doctrine on the chopping block in 1987. Fox “News” not only normalizes lying in the public domain, for which the worst of it we have witnessed in Donald Trump, but it plays a key role in demonizing factual-based debate, the proliferation of an informed citizenry and the guarantee of a fair and balanced election process. Fox “News” pundits not only personally attack those who threaten the right-wing agenda of their platform, be it protestors taking a knee to women marching in pussy hats to mass shooting survivors speaking out, as we witnessed this week with Fox “News” pundit Laura Ingraham’s personal attack on Parkland student David Hogg, but it uses its platform to exploit and perpetuate the ignorance and personal bias of its audience, which then perpetuates a never-ending cycle of emotional abuse on the American public, at the ballot box and with public policy.
Which begs the question, why do these advertisers put the future of their companies in the hands of Fox “News” pundits in the first place?
Isn’t it time America holds the entire network accountable?
Starting with Fox & Friends, who push propaganda and lies America’s current President of the United States (POTUS) Donald Trump then uses to make public policy and through Twitter rants, gaslight Americans into believing whatever lies they are peddling on any given day to sow chaos and distraction for the purpose of aiding Russian trolls into dividing American citizens and taking them off-topic of whatever new scandal/crime is being exposed.
It all starts with Fox “News."
Again, isn’t it time to hold the entire network accountable for this collusion? Haven’t we had enough of this wholesale propaganda platform that has pushed the limits and taken it too far for decades without remorse, that has dominated public discourse in the wrong direction for decades, that has brainwashed vulnerable demographics into voting against their own best interests for decades, in coordination with GOP politicians and special interest groups for decades?
Isn’t it time to boycott the entire network’s advertisers until they stop funding this propaganda machine? Hold them accountable for supporting decades of abuse on America’s most vulnerable? Punish them for colluding with America’s foreign enemies to stick us with the likes of Donald Trump? Let them know we’ve had enough and their priorities and advertising dollars need to change?
Yes. Yes it is.
Because of a protest-led boycott of her advertisers, Laura Ingraham announced she will be taking next week off, as a result of at least 18 advertisers pulling their ads from her show, a likely precursor to her leaving the network permanently. Great. America won that battle, but do we need to wait until the next vile Fox “News” pundit says the next vile thing to the wrong person before holding them accountable again? Really?
I believe David Hogg answers this question best:
