On Tuesday, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, reminding people that she is proof there is no meritocracy when it comes to being a billionaire, tweeted this out into the world:
Holy. Shit. If you have children in school; if you teach or work in a school; if you know anyone who has been near a school classroom in the last couple of decades, you realize that this sweeping generalization is not simply wrong, it’s offensive. As an aside, doesn’t DeVos know that plagiarizing stock photos and pretending they are your own work is an immediate docking of grade points?
Twitter’s more educated population made sure she got an earful. To be clear, there are hundreds of these responses to go through. Go below the fold to see a small sampling of truly educated people responding to Betsy DeVos’s failed grade of a Tweet.
Here’s some documentary evidence for you, Ms. DeVos.
Educational thinker Diane Ravitch was measured in her response:
And another truth bomb.
Maybe we can explain to Betsy DeVos that collaborative education is something that’s been going on for a long while. Maybe that’s something that people like DeVos have forgotten, having anesthetized themselves from the rest of humanity in a vat of gold.
