The children are our future and they know that there are too many adults on the back nine who have allowed the status quo to go on for far too long. It’s been a long road, but the 21 children who launched a lawsuit in 2015 against the federal government, and have won in every attempt by the powers that be to stop them, received another huge victory Wednesday. A federal appeals court rejected Trump’s administration’s attempts to block the kids’ lawsuit, opening up a chance for this case to see a trial. From Inside Climate News:
"We're excited to be back in the district court," said Julia Olson, chief legal counsel for Our Children's Trust, a nonprofit that is representing the youths. "We'll promptly ask for a new trial date for 2018 and get there as quickly as we possibly can, given the urgency of the climate crisis."
The plaintiffs are asking the courts to force the government to enact policies that would cut the nation's greenhouse gas emissions and end subsidies to fossil fuel companies.
Listen, this isn’t simply Trump. The Obama administration tried to get the case dismissed in 2016, which set up the victory allowing this case to proceed to hearing this February. It was in November that Trump’s team of idiots tried their hand at muffling these voices. One of the things at stake is forcing the government into a disclosure from various agencies. This level of transparency about what we are—and clearly what we are not—doing concerning the threat of climate change is not a situation the government wants to get involved in. There are still opportunities for Trump’s team to appeal to another, higher court.
