Fear of terrorism fueled W Bush’s popularity and re-election in 2001-2008. Perversely, though 9/11 happened on Bush’s watch, he managed to win in 2004, through bogus “orange alerts” and inflamed rhetoric.
From 2012 to 20116, the entire Benghazi!!! narrative was based on Hillary’s supposed attempt to deny the attack was terrorism (instead of a video).
Today may be a turning point. Russia has not just attempted assassination of a Kremlin enemy, Sergei Skripal, but that attempt has sickened and risked the death of 21 people in the UK.
This is a mass terror attack on a close ally.
Whose side are you on, GOP?
What happens when the poison comes here?
Trump has been silent.
I have some questions for Republicans:
- A foreign power has perpetrated a terrorist attack against an ally. Should it be condemned immediately by the President and Congress?
- You are attempting to thwart investigation into Russia’s attack on the US elections and Trump’s role. Now the stakes are not just election attacks but terrorist attacks. Will you protect us against these kinds of terrorist attacks by helping rather than hurting the Russia inquiry?
- You have undertaken a jihad against Christopher Steele and his dossier. Does this attempt to kill someone who may have helped Steele change your position on this?
- If you keep sabotaging the Russia inquiry, aren’t you raising the risk of Russia attacking the US, perhaps to take out other witnesses?
- If you don’t stop, aren’t you the party of terror, rather than the terror-fighting party?
- What do you call a party that ignores lethal attacks by foreign countries on our allies that threaten to reach our shores?
I know what I call them.
