“Mission accomplished” is, of course, a traditional Republican greeting. One that says “I expect a bump in the polls from this quick and painless victory,” to be immediately followed by the loss of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars in a quagmire that unfolds over decades. What, if anything, was accomplished on Friday evening, it’s a long way from over.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the missile strikes an "act of aggression against a sovereign state" and said they were against the UN charter. Russia, a key ally of the Assad government, is calling for an immediate UN Security Council meeting, he said.
