Received this e-mail today from the Council for a Livable World in support of Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s (D. TX) U.S. Senate campaign:
I must admit — as a proud Texas native, long frustrated by the lack of representation of my progressive views at the federal level, I have never been more excited about a candidate than I am about Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D) — and not only because he's taking on Sen. Ted Cruz (R) (or as I like to call him, an embarrassment to all things Texan).
I've never seen anyone like Beto — in Texas or anywhere else. He is visiting nearly every county in Texas, reaching out to people in places that haven't ever seen a Senate candidate stop by. Ever. My social media feeds are constantly filled with posts from people back home who finally feel that their voices can be heard in the Senate. They finally feel like they are not alone in their values. And in a state that went for President Trump by a margin of nine percent, that's huge.
Will you help my progressive friends and family in Texas gain long overdue representation in the Senate? Beto is not taking any corporate money, so he'll need every dollar from individuals he can get.
Beto, an ex-punk rocker, was first elected to public office as a member of the City Council in his hometown of El Paso. He then was elected in 2012 to represent Texas' 16th Congressional District.
In Congress, he serves on the House Armed Services Committee and its Strategic Forces Subcommittee. There, he supported the Iran nuclear agreement and opposed amendments to reduce funding for the New START treaty and the dismantlement of retired nuclear weapons. He also supports efforts to require congressional approval of the use of force overseas.
We know it won't be easy. We know winning a statewide seat in Texas is an uphill battle. But we also know that Beto is taking Texas by storm in a way we've never seen before. Will you help him continue his journey across Texas and toward the Senate?
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Anna Schumann
