Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D. MA) in support of Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s (D. TX) U.S. Senate campaign:
We can win a Senate seat in Texas this November. Yes, Texas.
A new poll out last week shows that Democratic Congressman Beto O’Rourke trails Senator Ted Cruz by only three points in the Texas Senate race.
The political insiders had been writing Beto off – saying it’s just too hard for a Democrat to win statewide in Texas. But Beto hasn’t been listening to the pundits. He’s been busy building the biggest, strongest grassroots Senate campaign since our own 2012 campaign in Massachusetts.
And now it’s clear to the whole country: Beto can win. But only if we all do our part.
Help Beto O’Rourke build the biggest grassroots team that Texas has ever seen. Chip in today and help Beto beat Ted Cruz in 2018.
Look, I know that winning a Senate race in Texas is an uphill battle. It’s Texas, for crying out loud!
But Beto is running the only kind of scrappy grassroots campaign that could get it done. He’s practically writing the manual for how to win in Texas in 2018.
Here are a few of the not-so-secret secrets to his success:
- Showing up and listening to people. Beto has already visited over 200 counties and held over 200 town halls all over the state.
- Motivating and empowering local volunteers. In every corner of Texas, you’ll find people who are fired up and ready to work their hearts out – knocking on doors, making phone calls, and having zillions of conversations about Beto with their friends and neighbors.
- Funding his campaign with grassroots supporters. Beto isn’t relying on big corporate donors. Beto is relying on people across Texas and the country chipping in $5 or $10 at a time. And it’s working: just in the past three months, their campaign has received 141,000 grassroots contributions.
I know a little bit about what Beto is going through right now. In my first Senate campaign in 2012, we also took on a right-wing juggernaut with a huge head start in fundraising. Every donation I got meant the world to me, and made a difference.
Every time I went out on the trail, I met people who looked me in the eye, shook my hand, and then whispered that they had given our campaign money. People told me about cutting out donut runs and digging a little deeper so they could pitch in some more. People said a hundred variations of “We contributed it to your campaign because we believe in you, and we believe in this fight.”
I’m asking you to contribute to Beto’s grassroots campaign because I believe in him and his team. I believe that they can win – but only if they have the resources to run a grassroots campaign in a massive state.
Will you make a donation and help Beto defeat Ted Cruz in 2018? Chip in to Beto’s campaign right now.
Thanks for being a part of this,
Elizabeth
