Idaho state Sen. Bob Nonini was one of three Republicans candidates to participate in a candidate forum on Idaho’s “CrossPolitic Show and Podcast,” a Christian-focused political show which was streamed live on Facebook. A loudmouth bully throughout the candidate forum, Nonini and fellow candidates Steve Yates and Janice McGeachin were repeatedly asked about their stance on abortion. Yates proclaimed “abortion is murder” and McGeachin agreed.
Bob Nonini was then asked by host David Shannon whether women should face capitol punishment for having an abortion and Nonini’s agreed, shaking his head in the affirmative and saying, “Yes. There should be no abortion and anyone who has an abortion should pay.” McGeachin was asked the same question and she disagreed, saying she did not think the death penalty was appropriate.
The backlash has been coming fast and furious. Nonini took to Twitter to try and backtrack on his statement.
Sorry, Bob, but we can hear it for ourselves. Thanks to Shareblue for amplifying this video and Nonini’s response. Listen to Nonini, in his own words, agree with the idea women “should pay” after being asked about the death penalty. His comments begin at approximately the 1 hour 18 minute mark of this video.
In a previous question about abortion and why Nonini and and state legislators hadn’t stopped it in Idaho, Nonini responded he was only one of 104 legislators and they’d need “104 guys like me.” Because that’s what the women of Idaho deserve? One hundred plus loudmouthed bullies dictating their healthcare choices.
