Received this e-mail today from VoteVets in support of U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin’s (D. WI) re-election campaign:
I served two tours of duty in Iraq and one in Kosovo. If it was my fate, I was ready to die for this country.
So you can imagine my surprise to see a columnist at a reputable newspaper in Wisconsin imply that I, and the 150,000 veterans who have signed up to support VoteVets, are “play soldiers.”
And why? Because VoteVets has spent a lot of money applauding Senator Tammy Baldwin’s work supporting veterans in Wisconsin.
Our organization has veteran supporters who lost limbs in war. We have members who have mental wounds so deep that loud noises still make them feel panic. Many of them have donated toward our work in Wisconsin, and none of them are “playing soldier.”
So we are going to double down on our work in Wisconsin because clearly we have struck a nerve. But we can’t do it alone:
Make a $3 donation today to help us double down on our work supporting Tammy Baldwin, and as a way of sending a message that we are not going to let anyone demean the service of those who power VoteVets.
Frankly, it’s appalling.
Thanks for supporting VoteVets’ work and mission.
All my best,
Jon Soltz
Iraq War Veteran and Chairman
