I needed this spot of good news today. From Broward County’s Sun-Sentinel.
Samantha Fuentes, a survivor of the attack that killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, says her face "is finally shrapnel free!"
Fuentes tweeted a photo of her bruised face on Saturday, with a hospital bandage still stretching from her ear to her mouth, but her smile is wide.
She says that regardless of the fact she looks like she lost a fight, inside she's winning.
She says she wants to thank her supporters because she's been struggling hard to love her face again.
If you recall, Samantha was the student activist that vomited on stage while speaking at the March For Our Lives at Washington D.C’s massive anti-gun rally. (see embedded link in the block quote above).
“Hello beautiful people of America,” Fuentes said. She started reciting a poem she had written about the Stoneman Douglas massacre titled “Enough,” describing how that day she cried “tears and blood at the same time.”
She halted. She faltered. She tried to compose herself.
And then she threw up.
What a beautiful, brave and determined young woman. May she heal quickly.
