On May 21 Best friends of Lowcountry Transit will paint a 5x20 foot Canvass banner for use beginning Memorial day weekend at or near the Folly Beach Farmer’s Market. Paint and brushes will be supplied, but painters are welcome to bring their own paint and brushes if they like. Facebook signup for the banner painting event.

We’ve posted a Video of our year’s long struggle to get Buses Back to Charleston’s Beaches. Tactics will undergo a significant escalation this summer. We do not plan violence or the destruction or property and plan lawful, peaceful, fun and politically disturbing expressions of support for our position.
Folly Beach had a long tradition of painting the Folly Boat which lasted from Hurricane Hugo in 1989, when the former lifeboat grounded at the edge of Folly Road until September 2017 when the boat was washed away by another Hurricane. Efforts to relocate the boat and make it available for free speech paint application are being made now.
Best Friends of Lowcountry transit will trace the wording for the Banner on the ivory painted canvass prior to bringing it to the market. a 4 foot wide, 5 foot tall space will be reserved on the left end for a painted design applied by someone who doesn’t rely on a projector and carpenters pencil to know where paint should go. The individual letters will be large so each can be separate work of art, just stay between the lines. Think of the sort of lettering used by Hippie Illustrators in the 1960s and the Illuminated Manuscripts of the Middle Ages.
Tentative plans are to complete the banner and deploy it on or near the site of the former Folly Boat on the morning of Saturday, May 26 in a staffed presentation while transit advocates will roam the nearby town and beach collecting expressions for support for buses to beaches from the beach going public and town businesses.
Pictured right is a banner we produced for the 2016 Transit complete the Penny Campaign and how it was used. The Beach Banner will be 100 sf. This banner was 45 sf. See this video for how the banner was produced.
You can read our plans for transit advocacy for the remainder of this year online now in this blog post.
The campaign will continue through to July 14 when the group will hold the second Bastille Day at the Beach during which they hope this year to actually reach the Declaration of the Rights of Man and do other fun, but motivating pro transit freedom actions. There will be T-shirts and some Transit oriented sand castles.
