The current Rudy Strategy is to try to crowd any original argument by admitting collusion in general is OK, but now it’s a race between that claim and continuing criminal revelations.
We’ll soon hear about 1996 Al Gore and the Buddhists as the next Trumpian whatabout argument.
- First, it was revealed that in December 2016 shortly after Trump was elected president, former Qatari diplomat Ahmed al-Rumaihi attended a meeting at Trump Tower with President Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen and Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser. At the time, Cohen reportedly solicited a $1 million payment from Qatar in exchange for access to the incoming administration — a payment Qatar reportedly refused.
- Then, on Friday afternoon it was revealed that while attending the Qatar-U.S. Economic Forum in Miami last month, Cohen requested a meeting with Qatar ambassador Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani. The tete-a-tete came just days before the FBI raided Cohen’s home and office in its ongoing probe into his financial dealings.
- Now, a Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) filing shows that Cohen’s lawyer, Stephen Ryan, is also a lobbyist for the State of Qatar and its ambassador Al Thani. Al Thani was also among the senior foreign officials who visited Trump’s transition team headquarters at Trump Tower in December 2016.

Today’s NYT scoop revealing that the Trump campaign colluded not just with Russians, but also Saudis, Emirates, and Israelis explain why the discovery of the later meetings was so dangerous: because it would reveal other efforts Trump made to sell out American foreign policy.
The israeli’s plan involved using thousands of fake accounts to promote Trump on social media.
The only principle in play at The Federalist would therefore appear to be that no one of either party should ever investigate Donald Trump.
