Facepalm:
Vice President Pence praised former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted of contempt of court, as a “tireless champion of … the rule of law” during an event in Arizona on Tuesday.
Pence said at the tax event that he was “honored” by the former sheriff’s attendance, and called Arpaio a “great friend of this president and tireless champion of strong borders and the rule of law,” to cheers from the crowd.
President Trump last year pardoned Arpaio, a vocal supporter of his on the campaign trail, after he was convicted of contempt of court for refusing to stop racially profiling Hispanic people at traffic stops for immigration checks.
Arpaio, who is running for retiring Sen. Jeff Flake’s (R-Ariz.) Senate seat, filed an appeal in January to have the conviction cleared.
Pence’s idiotic remarks were immediately called out:
Aside from racial profiling and unlawful detentions, Arpaio’s other greatest hits include searching for Barack Obama’s birth certificate — since he still believes America’s first black president was not born in America — forcing his prisoners to wear pink panties, and failing to investigate hundreds of credible sex crimes.
However, his awful track record didn’t stop Pence from saying he is “honored to have” Arpaio attend his Phoenix event tonight, as the disgraced sheriff is supposedly “tireless champion of strong borders and the rule of law.”
Twitter responded to Pence’s hat tip by tearing into the vice president for defending the “nightmare” “racist” Arpaio:

We have a great opportunity to win this race and Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D. AZ) has been leading both Arpaio and the other GOP candidates. Let’s keep up this momentum. Click here to donate and get involved with Sinema’s campaign.
