The news that a Trump Administration policy caused nearly fifteen hundred children to be ripped from their asylum-seeking immigrant parents' arms and "lost" has been the unheralded firestorm of the past week.
This is news so horrible that even Trump felt the need to address it - and in typical Trump manner, he did it by lying about it in a tweet, blaming others for a policy his administration created with his full knowledge and approval. Meanwhile, his online surrogates are spreading a similar lie intended to absolve him of blame by falsely assigning the blame to another (in this case, former President Obama).
This is all coming to light now in large part because of the large spotlight shone upon back on May 15 by Kamala Harris, the junior senator from California and a rising leader in the Democratic Party:
According to the article in The Hill that Senator Harris cited in her tweet:
Harris asked Nielsen at a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing on national security needs and authorities if President Trump directed her "to separate parents from children as a method of deterrence of undocumented immigration."
Here's the video:
Thank you, Senator Harris.
