Thanks for voting on June 5th! Below are my personal recommendations for candidates running for local office here in LA County.
Because it can be difficult to figure out the best candidates for especially, especially in races for local judicial and law enforcement positions.
* SHERIFF, LOS ANGELES COUNTY: Alex Villanueva
The incumbent, Jim McDonnell, ran as a reformer but he's fought hard against SB 54 (the immigrant rights/sanctuary state) bill and stronger oversight of the deep problems of the Sheriff's Department and the jails it operates. Alex Villanueva, an experienced veteran of the Department, is the best choice in this race to pursue a stronger reform agenda.
* JUDGES
Office #4: Veronica Saucedo
Office #16: Patricia Hunter
Office #20: Wendy Segall
Office #60: Holly L. Hancock (this is especially important as Hancock has worked on the defendant side and too many judges come exclusively from the ranks of prosecutors)
….
Office #113: Javier Perez
Office #118: David Diamond
Office #126: Rene Gilbertson
Office #146: Armando Duron
