Michael Cohen, the former personal attorney for Donald Trump who spent years doing television appearances on behalf of the biggest publicity seeking big mouth in modern history, is now trying to get attorney Michael Avenatti thrown off the Stormy Daniels case by seeking a restraining order. Why? Cohen is citing Avenatti’s “unquenchable thirst for publicity.” Seriously. From NBC News:
The motion filed in federal court for the Central District of California relates to a lawsuit brought by Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, against Trump and Cohen seeking to invalidate the non-disclosure agreement she signed in exchange for $130,000 payment made a month before the 2016 presidential election.
The motion claims that "Avenatti's actions are mainly driven by his seemingly unquenchable thirst for publicity," and seeks an order restraining Avenatti "from communicating with the press and/or public regarding the merits of this case."
Avenatti responded calling it a “joke.”
Avenatti went further, saying this is how Trump and his cohorts have always operated. Their main strategy today is the same it has always been, by getting people to stop talking and hiding the truth.
Joyce Alene, a University of Alabama law professor and former U.S. Attorney, agreed.
There is some irony that Donald Trump’s personal “fixer” is seeking to gag another attorney because of his “unquenchable thirst for publicity.” Too much publicity? Says who?!
Is Avenatti doing a lot of media? He sure is. The tactic is right out of the Trump playbook. He’s beating them at their own game. You can read the desperation request for a restraining order below.
In the meantime, Donald Trump has, for the first time, said Michael Cohen is no longer his attorney.
