Meanwhile, I intend to stand up in my church on Sunday when the pastor asks for prayer requests and read this statement:
Martin Niemoller was a German Lutheran pastor who spoke out against the Nazis. He was arrested in 1937 and eventually was placed in Dachau concentration camp. He survived and was freed in 1945.
Speaking of his experiences he wrote:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Today hundreds of innocent children are being taken away from their families and held by our government; their families are not given any information about them.
I ask today that we pray for the welfare of these children and their families.
I also ask that we pray for officials who quote the Bible to justify their treatment of these innocents that they may stop perverting Jesus' teachings to justify their treatment of the least of these.
I’ll probably be escorted out but enough is enough.
“There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must take it because his conscience tells him it is right.”
