I wonder if Rupert Murdoch will read this article which was just published in the Australian Herald Sun and on News.com.au which he owns.
He should. Perhaps if he did he would reassess his allowing Fox News to treat Donald Trump as an Mt. Rushmore-worthy president. At the least, he would see to it that the fact that countless mental health professionals, including experts on violence like Bandy X. Lee, MD, editor of The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, consider Donald Trump to be dangerous.
I am sure there are mental health professionals who would be willing to appear on a Fox New show, especially now that Trump is showing more and more signs of becoming deranged.
As far as I know, only one Duty to Warn psychotherapist, clinical psychologist Dr. John Gartner (who is the founder of the group) has appeared on a Fox News show. He was on Watter’s World a year ago. He’s been on Lawrence O’Donnell along with another Duty to Warn shrink, Harvard psychiatrist Lance Dodes. John Gartner is currently in the news because he is one of the editors of a just-published book, Nuclear Madness and the Mind of Donald Trump (which I wrote about here a few days ago). John Gartner is also working on raising funds for a documentary #UNFIT: The Dangerous Mind of Donald Trump. I explain the history of the Duty to Warn movement here.
The article presents quotes from a leading Australian psychologist, Dr. Helen McGrath, who has researched malignant narcissism and a number of other personality disorders in depth for a new book, Mind Behind The Crime: What Makes Australia’s worst killers tick?
Here are some of the points Dr. McCrath makes in the Herald Sun article.
- Mr. Trump, will always believe he is “Teflon man” because the malignant narcissist personality type always believes that it is the cleverest and is always right.
- The malignant narcissist goes on the attack with critics, and will “lie with ease” and reshape facts to suit themselves — hence, Mr Trump’s term “fake news”, for anything he doesn’t want to hear or which paints him in a less than adoring light.
- “Malignant narcissists are dangerous in that they say essentially say “it doesn’t matter what it costs, I’ll get what I want.”
- “They can be concerned and empathetic — as long as it benefits them.”
- “There’s a chance he will be able to moderate enough — and it’s not genuine — to get some of his detractors a little bit more on side.”
- The thing with narcissists is they are convincing — it takes people a long time to wake up.
Whether one wants to quibble over exact psychiatric labels or how accurate a distant diagnosis can be, hundreds, perhaps over a thousand, mental health professionals have gone public in articles, books, and letters to the editor saying in one way or another that Trump's behavior demonstrates that he is dangerously mentally unstable.
.
Many world leaders have been and are narcissistic. However, the hallmark of a narcissist with sociopathic traits and tendencies (basically the definition of malignant narcissism) is that they have a cruel streak, that they lack empathy, and put their own needs for self-aggrandizement over the greater good of the people they govern.
.
You don't ever see malignant narcissists trying to make their country more humane and democratic.
