Received quite a few e-mails from Khizr Khan in support of Democratic candidates running for Congress. First, in Kentucky:
In 2004, while deployed in Iraq, my son stopped a vehicle-borne-improvised-explosive-device and saved the lives of countless soldiers under his command. But he didn’t survive the blast.
My son died a hero to this country, but many leaders in D.C. continue to ignore the values that my son stood for -- the values that my son died defending: honor, courage, integrity, compassion, and an unrelenting commitment to make our country better.
Like my son, Amy McGrath volunteered to go to war and put her life on the line for those values. She's willing to put country before party -- and that's the type of leadership that we desperately need right now to fix what's broken in Congress.
We need leaders who will stand up and fight for those values that make the United States a beacon of light for families, like mine, that immigrate here to work toward the American Dream.
When I stood on that stage at the Democratic National Convention in 2016 and spoke about "the best of America," I did so thinking about my son, all the men and women of our Armed Forces and the incredible dedication they have to our country.
I see that dedication in Amy McGrath, and I know she will bring the values she and my son fought for to Congress for the people of Kentucky’s 6th District. But we need to help her get there.
Our country needs patriots like Amy right now. Your support for her can help change Congress -- and I hope you'll join me today.
Thank you,
Khizr Khan

For Dean Phillips (D. MN-01) congressional campaign:
Friend,
By now, many of you know my family's story.
My son, fought and died for our country, standing up for what he believed was right. And those are the principles that my wife Ghazala and I sought to honor when we stood up for our Constitution at the Democratic National Convention.
Because when the president insults Gold Star families, we cannot stay silent.
When members of Congress refuse to put the safety and health of their constituents ahead of special interests, we need to replace them with leaders who will have the courage to speak up. Leaders like Dean Phillips.
I joined Dean in Minnesota this week because he is demonstrating true courage as he runs for Congress. And now, I'm asking you to join me in supporting his campaign before his biggest official FEC deadline yet.
Both Dean and I know what it's like to have a family member who made the ultimate sacrifice. And I know that he carries the memory of his father's courage and service with him every day.
Watching Dean campaign, it's clear that he's doing things a little differently than what we've come to expect in politics. He's putting principles before party lines. He's building his campaign one conversation at a time, and building an inclusive campaign where everyone is invited. And his community is taking notice. This is the way campaigns should be run and this is why I know, with your help, Dean will win this November.
Dean has the courage to do what his opponent won't -- to call out powerful groups like the NRA and to refuse ANY special interest money. But that's made him a top target. GOP officials at the highest levels are spending huge sums to make sure that Dean's voice never makes it to Congress. You and I both know we can't let that happen.
Please join me and rush a contribution to Dean's campaign before his end-of-quarter deadline:

For Angie Craig (D. MN-02):
I’ll be frank: I’m alarmed by the direction this country is heading.
As a Gold Star father, I’ve made it my mission to support candidates and leaders who I believe can restore our values in Washington, and put our country on the right track again.
That’s why I’m supporting Angie Craig in her race for Congress, and asking you to join me today by making a donation to her campaign.
Sam, it’s vital that the Democrats take back the House this fall to provide a check on the extreme, far-right agenda that’s polarizing our nation and leaving hard working families behind. Our path to victory runs directly through Minnesota’s Second District.
Angie is up against the entire GOP establishment and their powerful network of special-interest donors who are pitching in to prop up her opponent, Jason Lewis. I’m counting on you to help me make sure Angie has the resources she needs to win. Will you make a donation today?
I have faith that together -- with leaders like Angie in Washington -- we can once again live up to the ideals this country was founded on, and restore an American Dream that works for all American families.
Sincerely,
Khizr Khan
