It is becoming quite clear that the Russians did, directly and effectively, help Donald Trump steal the 2016 Presidential election. Two recent diaries present Rachel Maddow’s brilliant dissection of this:

One even ends with “Case.Fucking.Closed.” And, I agree.
But there is a big problem. Trump’s supporters. We have watched their arguments follow roughly this progression:
- “The Trump campaign has no connections to Russia”
- “Trump campaign officials know a few Russians, but who doesn’t”
- “Trump campaign officials have lots of Russian friends and connections, but there was no collusion”
- “Maybe there was unwitting collusion, but no laws were broken”
- “Okay, there was collusion, but everyone uses opposition research, why do you care where it came from?” or “They did not know where it came from”
What happens at “Case.Fucking.Closed” on collusion?
According to this piece ( https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/07/trump-voters-putin-russia/565592/ ) in The Atlantic (by McKay Coppin), pivot number 6 is exactly this:
6. “Of course Russia helped Donald Trump get elected, and we should thank them.”
No shit.
I have recently seen this appearing in the comments on my (R-NRA) Congressman’s Facebook. This is the “shoot someone on 5th Avenue” syndrome. This is loyalty to a cult and not to the Constitution. This is people who label themselves as “ ‘Mericuns ” and “ Patriuts ” cheering for a hostile foreign invasion. There is nothing that the Mueller investigation could uncover that would shake these people. They are ready to have Russia select our leaders to avoid having a woman, another black man, or any “ Libtard “ serve in government.
I do not know how this ends civilly.
