Whew! I almost forgot! I got to write up the GNR tonight. Completely slipped my mind. Still, its time and I got a lot to report on tonight.
Lets get the big one out the way first:
Embattled Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) said Saturday he is suspending his reelection campaign as he fights charges related to insider trading — a dramatic reversal from a few days ago when he insisted he would be on the November ballot and seek reelection.
“After extensive discussions with my family and my friends over the last few days, I have decided that it is in the best interests of the constituents of NY-27, the Republican Party and President Trump’s agenda for me to suspend my campaign for re-election to Congress,” Collins said in a statement.
He added he will continue serving the rest of his term and “fight the meritless charges brought against me.”
You may remember Chris Collins as the first Republican representative to support Trump. He was also the coward who refused to hold town hall meetings during the ACA repeal battle. An utter coward through and through, and also my representative. Yep, I live in the fighting 27th, and I’ll be glad to see him go . Goodbye Mr. Collins, i told you this would be your last year in office and I was right.
But he’s not the only asshole getting dunked on.
Aww, poor Richard Spencer. First, he was banned from 26 European nations. Then, he lost his ability to spread his chosen brand of hate on Facebook. And who can forget how he was senselessly attacked on Inauguration Day, while wearing his very best sweater vest?
Thankfully, like Alex Jones, he’s still welcome on Twitter. Phew.
But now, after over a year of bi-weekly neighborly protests, the rabid Trump-saluting white supremacist has apparently moved out of his self-described “hub” for the “alt-right” movement. Spencer allegedly fled Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, on Friday, despite having several months left on a two-year lease that he secured under dubious circumstances.
In an email to Washingtonian, Jonathan Krall says Alexandria Police Chief Michael L. Brown told him Spencer had left, and that the chocolate shop downstairs saw a “moving van and other activity consistent with” him moving out.
Spencer, of course, has been unwelcome in Alexandria since he got there, drawing protests in the historic neighborhood filled with retail shops and restaurants that wanted nothing to do with his message of bigotry—especially after the hair gel abusing zealot’s participation in the deadly Charlottesville nightmare last August.
Yep, Alt Right Spokesman and worthless Ratzi punching bag fled his Virginia headquarters under cover of night like a frightened gopher. I hope the next time we hear from him he’s dumpster diving for ham scraps.
Bloomberg) -- Donald Trump accused his own attorney general of being “scared stiff and missing in action” as the president continued to question whether officials in his administration have acted appropriately in probing the Trump campaign’s Russian connections.
“The big story that the Fake News Media refuses to report is lowlife Christopher Steele’s many meetings with Deputy A.G. Bruce Ohr” and Ohr’s wife Nellie, Trump tweeted on Saturday, referring to former British spy Steele, who wrote a dossier alleging the Trump campaign conspired with Russia during the 2016 election.
Trump said Nellie Ohr -- whose name he misspelled as “Nelly” -- works for Fusion GPS, the research firm that hired Steele to compile the dossier. “I have never seen anything so Rigged in my life. Our A.G. is scared stiff and Missing in Action. It is all starting to be revealed--not pretty,” the president said. “Witch Hunt!”
Trump has said repeatedly that Steele’s findings prompted the inquiry that led to Mueller’s investigation, but a congressional report found it began months earlier, following a tip about George Papadopoulos, one of Trump’s political advisers.
Watching Trump fight with his own administration is always funny. Its like watching the weirdest episode of Jerry Springer ever.
LYMPIA — A sweeping health-care expansion. A capital-gains tax. New environmental legislation.
The prospect of large majorities in the state Legislature has some Democrats hoping they can make good on ideas they’ve long championed but have been blocked by Republicans — and fellow Democrats within their small majorities.
Last week’s primary-election returns found Democrats leading in about 20 state House and Senate races against either Republican incumbents or GOP candidates running for open seats the party had held.
Ballots are still being counted and it remains to be seen how many of those Democrats ultimately prevail in the primaries and, of course, in the November general election. Still, Democrats are showing strong primary results in regions that few had considered truly competitive.
Woo! Go Washington! We’re rooting for ya!
Omarosa Manigault Newman’s forthcoming tell-all book about the Trump administration, and the news that she has recordings of conversations from within the White House, has met a wall of skepticism bordering on reflexive disbelief. That is perfectly understandable: Manigault Newman came to the White House with an unimpressive résumé even by the dismal standards of the Trump administration, having attached herself to the president as a reality show character. Her shocked, shocked discovery that racism is going on in this administration makes her appear at best naïve, at worst cynically willing to overlook obvious flaws in her boss that she decided to acknowledge only after being fired.
But Manigault Newman may indeed have the goods. Or, at least, some of the goods. And she is playing her hand in a clever way that appears designed to maximize her leverage.
A passage in the New York Times summarizes some of the more explosive claims:
Ms. Manigault Newman also claims that Mr. Trump’s daughter-in-law tried to buy her silence by offering a $15,000-a-month contract; that the president secreted a tanning bed into the White House residence; that Mr. Trump described his education secretary, Betsy DeVos, as “ditsy”; that he once chewed up a piece of paper to avoid having it collected by presidential record-keepers; and that he routinely comments on women’s looks.
The $15,000-per-month retainer has been confirmed by the Washington Post, which reviewed a copy of the offer. This lends veracity to her other charges; after all, nobody is going to pay her $15,000 a month to keep quiet unless they know she possesses some damaging information.
The lesson here: Always keep the receipts. Especially when you find yourself working for Donald Trump.
Anyways, that’s the good news for today, everyone have a good Monday.
