Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Marsha Blackburn felt the sting of a massive county Democratic sweep in Tennessee, as well as watching the landslide loss of Diane Black who was running for Tennessee governor. Learning from her peer’s mistakes, Blackburn put out a new ad very unlike her previous. She mentions nothing about her her love for guns, Trump, the Wall, immigrant ban, war against Planned Parenthood, war against equal pay for women...nothing at all about those issues. Instead, her new ad depicts a safe, sweet clip of a nothing burger. Here is the 30-second video followed by the transcription.

We kind of had a mantra in our family and always give more than you take.
Marsha Blackburn
As I went to Congress somebody said, ‘Well do you go to fit in or do you go to stand out.” I’m in this fight. And I’m in this fight so that we can win. And the “we” is people, the constitution, the country.
I’m Marsha Blackburn, and approve this message.
Now here’s the ad from last fall that has played throughout 2018—until now.

Here’s a breakdown of the October video.
- Blackburn who some would call sort of a “Ted Cruz meets Sarah Palin meets Donald Trump” calls hersef a “politically incorrect, hardcore, card-carrying, Tennessee conservative who will STAND for our Star-Spangled Banner! She likes to carry guns and photos of fetuses. Blackburn goes on to state she is “pro-immigration ban.” She didn’t bother to use the usual conservative labels like “illegal immigrants, illegal aliens, thugs and terrorists.” No, it seems she means we should ban ALL the immigrants, who along with Native American Indians built this country. Of course, that would mean she’d need to ban herself and family for being descendants of immigrants, as that makes it in her blood.
- This slick politician also refers to herself as being100% pro-life, pro-baby and pro-woman. Blackburn brags, “I fought Planned Parenthood, and we stopped the sale of baby body parts, thank God!” -Marsha Blackburn, 2017. There are so many things wrong this bullet, I don’t know where to begin.
So, her new ad is quite different, yes? And this is how some Republicans win. They grab their base early on, and then as Election Day get’s closer, they pull back and come off as ‘everyone’s candidate.’ Once elected, they become their true self-serving selves. And then, of course later, many people wonder how corrupt politicians got elected. Blackburn is doing some of that, but there’s something about the innocuous new ad that makes her look afraid to claim Trump and his policies. After all, look what happened to Diane Black when she didn’t pull back.
As an aside, Blackburn has also proven several times that she is no friend to the women in this country. Huffington Post reports.
Blackburn voted against the 2009 Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, a landmark bill for women’s rights in the workplace. The law makes it easier for women to file wage discrimination suits against employers. She also voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act of 2009.
What to do? If you know Democrats/liberals/progressives in Tennessee, share this story and other stories about Republican con-artist and stories about any toxic Republican candidate running. Lord knows, we already have enough of them in Congress.
