Hoping I’m not offending too many people with my title. The anger steams sometimes when I see/hear/read what this self-serving, egotistical, illegitimate so-called president has to say on just about anything on any day. But today’s insincere condolences to Aretha Franklin, on the morning of her passing, seems to sting in a different way.
First, here is former President Barack Obama’s tribute to Aretha Franklin, via Twitter. Not like we need any reminder, this is what a real presidential tribute looks like.
Transcript:
Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade—our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace. — Barack Obama
Here is Trump’s so-called “tribute,” on video, to millions via “fake news,” aka “the enemy of the people” (unless it serves him). It’s shameful how ABC News chose to excerpt the “normal” segment of Trump’s statement, rather than the real part.
Here’s the part that ABC News glossed over:
I want to begin today by expressing my condolences to the family of a person I knew well. She worked for me on numerous occasions. She was terrific, Aretha Franklin on her passing...want to pass on my warmest wishes.
“She worked for me.” Normally, I’d say WTF? But there is nothing new about this egotistical ass making everything all about him and what a big man he thinks he is. Only a little man has to prove it every single day. Trump continues to embarrass this country. May the world come to see the majority of the American people are not “with” him.
For those of us who believe the spirit stays for a while after death, we apologize to you, Aretha, for Trump. The world will always greatly love and R-E-S-P-E-C-T you. Your music will carry on forever. Thank you for that gift. May you rest in power and eternal peace.
