Democratic leaders in Washington have been quick to respond to today’s twin announcements of guilty verdicts in the Manafort case and guilty pleas by Michael Cohen.
Here are a few of them.
There seem to be several themes in play here —
- To preempt any attempt by Trump to pardon these criminals, who still have a lot more to reveal. Or to make the GOP pay a heavy price if does.
- To build up support for the Mueller investigation.
- To neutralize the phrase “witch hunt”.
- To shine the spotlight on Trump and his merry gang of criminals.
- To energize the Democratic voter base and drain the energy from the Republican base by highlighting the words — criminal, corruption, felony, obstruction, law and justice.
