It’s been a day. Two of Trump’s confidants and abettors, Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen, have both been convicted of federal crimes with eight counts each. Manafort was found guilty by a jury of his peers, while Cohen pleaded guilty for a deal. The White House corral of corruption has officially opened its gates and the impeachment of Donald Trumps is galloping out.
On Tuesday night, in celebration, Lawrence O’Donnell of MSNBC’s “The Last Word” played a short video clip of Senator Lindsey Graham. The video, from nearly 20 years ago, shows Graham explaining why some people need to be impeached, and how his standards should apply to everyone. His statement in front of Congress took place during the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Graham’s blast from the ass past is humorous, as well as a perfect example of GOP hypocrisy. O’Donnell delightedly challenges reporters to expose Senator Graham.
Here’s the Lawrence O’Donnell tweet, with excerpts from Lindsey Graham’s speech before members of Congress.
Transcript:
“So the point I’m trying to make is you don’t even have to be convicted of a crime to lose your job in this constitutional republic, if this body determines that your conduct as a public official is clearly out of bounds in your role.
Because impeachment is not about punishment. Impeachment is about cleansing the office. Impeachment is about restoring honor and integrity to the office.”
-Lindsey Graham, January 23, 1999
Today is a good day for America, and a very bad day for Trump—which is always a good day for America. Thank you, Lawrence O’Donnell.
Now, you were saying, Senator Graham?
