One might think Donald Trump had bigger things to consider on the day the Cohen/Manafort bomb dropped on his White House. But instead he was focused on a few empty seats Tuesday night at his Charleston, West Virginia, rally, according to the New York Times.
On Air Force One on Tuesday night on the way back from a rally in West Virginia, Mr. Trump repeatedly minimized the news, telling aides that the legal developments were not about him, but about Mr. Manafort and Mr. Cohen. He also groused over the optics of the rally, telling a person close to him that the crowd seemed flat and that some chairs were empty.
Apparently, those old familiar chants of "Lock her up!" flowing from the crowd weren't enough to cheer Trumpty Dumpty. Poor guy, he just doesn't know how it all went down the crapper so quickly.
“We started with collusion,” the president mused, according to several people who witnessed Mr. Trump’s somber mood. “How did we end up here?”
Hmm ... perhaps there's a clue in Trump's latest Fox News interview, recorded Wednesday.
"It's called flipping and it almost ought to be illegal," Trump said in the interview, adding he's witnessed similar scenarios over his decades in public life. "I know all about flipping, 30, 40 years I have been watching flippers.
Right, who among us hasn't been watching "flippers" for "30, 40 years"? Anyone who isn't a mob boss, that's who. Maybe that's where things went sideways.
