Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) can't get her story straight. Up until now, she's been insisting that she's not hearing from her constituents on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court like she did on Affordable Care Act repeal. So why should she feel any pressure to do what she's probably already agreed to with Trump and Mitch McConnell—vote yes? Then a dam broke over the weekend and the local media, which has always been very kind to her, finally woke up and started putting on the pressure.
Now that that's happened, she's rushing off to give the crazy right-wing outlet Newsmax exclusives about how she's being picked on and whining about how mean constituents are being to her on the nomination, running to her Republican colleagues to get them to back her up.
Either she's not hearing from constituents or she's being flooded by nasty phone calls. It can't work both ways. And as for the nastiness? A former staffer for Maine Democrat Rep. Chelle Pingree isn't having any of that: "Calls have gotten nasty since 2016?" Chris Glynn tweets. "She should've heard what the calls were like to Dem congressional offices when a black man was President."
The people of Maine need to call her on this. Directly. Every day. At her office numbers: (207) 622-8414, (207) 945-0417, (207) 283-1101, (207) 493-7873, (207) 784-6969, (207) 780-3575, (202) 224-2523. But be polite. And maybe record your messages to show how polite you are, and provide those to the local media so everyone knows what a liar she is.
