According to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) at Tufts University’s Tisch College of Civic Life, Illinois’ 6th Congressional district is one where young people can have a decisive impact on the results of the election. So, who’s the Democratic candidate and how can young folks get involved?
Sean Casten’s innovative scientific career took him to Illinois in 2007 when he helped start Recycled Energy Development, LLC. Before starting Recycled Energy, he was a lab assistant at the Tufts School of Medicine working in cancer research, a consultant with Arthur D. Little, and the president and CEO of Turbostream Corporation. He obtained his undergraduate degrees in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Middlebury College and a Masters of Engineering Management and a Masters in Biochemical Engineering from Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering, a school he continues to collaborate with as a member of the Corporate Collaboration Council.
In Congress, Sean will be committed to affordable, quality healthcare to the families of IL-06. He will fight to keep Medicare and Medicaid viable options for all of us and for generations to come. His experience shows he has the power to drive American energy policy forward with a mind to 21st-century solutions. He has mad diplomatic skills, having negotiated the Massachusetts Interconnection Standards and providing expert testimony to agencies nationwide. He has been awarded the title of CHP Champion by the U.S. Combined Heat and Power Association and Emerging Leader by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. His campaign has racked up impressive endorsements from leaders like Katie McGinty, Dick Durbin, and Hank Habicht as well as organizations like the Illinois Education Association, the Leadership Now Project, and the Sierra Club.
Sean is currently raising his two daughters, who both attend public schools, with his wife, Kara. They live in Downers Grove. Sean’s ready to take his experience and knowledge to Washington to create a better tomorrow for America and the people of IL-06.
