The deplorables have really scraped the bottom of the barrel in attacking Christine Blasey Ford. From questioning her political leanings to suggesting that this is really about abortion, it seems nothing has been too low in their efforts to protect Brett Kavanaugh.
But the lowest blow yet may have come from America’s favorite false prophet, Mark Taylor. You may know him as the retired firefighter who claimed to have gotten a prophecy that Trump would become president. One problem—that prophecy came in 2011, and predicted that Trump would defeat Obama in 2012. As we know, that didn’t happen. But that hasn’t stopped him from becoming one of the go-to guys on the Trumpvangelical circuit.
Earlier this week, Taylor sat down with religious right podcaster Chris McDonald to promote “Commander,” the upcoming Liberty University-produced movie about his “prophecy.” It’s based on his recent book, “The Trump Prophecies.” Taylor delivered a chilling warning to Blasey Ford—she’s treading on dangerous spiritual ground. Right Wing Watch got a clip.
Taylor said that if God wanted Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, Blasey Ford has one option—“that lady better repent.” As Taylor saw it, since God chose Kavanaugh for that seat, Blasey Ford “is now touching God’s anointed”—and unless she repents, “she is going to be disciplined hard.”
Taylor was speaking in code—one with which this charismatic Christian is all too familiar. He was referring to 1 Chronicles 16:22—a favorite spiritual kick in the groin used by abusive churches, especially hypercharismatic ones (“Do not touch my anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm”).
The message was clear—Blasey Ford, need to sit down and shut up, or else there’s a lightning bolt with her name on it for daring to derail the man God chose for that seat. That warning could have just as well been for anyone else who—God forbid—may have been victimized by Kavanaugh.
Listening to this sent a chill down my spine. This sort of thing is exactly why so many churches have their collective heads up their collective butts regarding sexual assault and rape. If you speak up, you run the risk of being called out for “touching God’s anointed.” Is it any wonder so many victims in these churches don’t come forward for years, if they come forward at all?
It sounds even worse in full (via Periscope or YouTube); the discussion about Blasey Ford begins at the 19 minute mark. Taylor peddled what has become a standard fundicostal shibboleth—anyone who dares to oppose Trump has fallen flat on his face. Uh huh. You may want to talk to Robert Mueller about that.
What makes it even worse is McDonald’s reaction. He actually wanted to keep Taylor to keep going. Any responsible host would have ended it right there and booted Taylor’s depraved butt off the show. Not McDonald.
Indeed, McDonald actually applauded Taylor on Twitter.
This “great show” contained one of the most ham-handed attempts to intimidate a potential sexual assault victim that I’ve ever seen. Taylor and McDonald better hope no one else was victimized by Kavanaugh. If any other victims were dissuaded from coming forward after hearing this claptrap, Taylor and McDonald will have to answer for it—if not in this world, in heaven.
Let Taylor and McDonald have it on the YouTube version—and pile up the dislikes.
