Campaign Action
Republicans—the leadership anyway—are united with the pussy-grabber in chief and his odious Supreme Court nominee in insisting they will not back down and withdraw Brett Kavanaugh's nomination. They are doing it for one reason, to try to keep Dr. Christine Blasey Ford from testifying.
Leadership is getting their message out everywhere they can, including The New York Times. "Senior Republicans are closing ranks around the nominee, and they echoed Judge Kavanaugh’s claims, accusing Democrats of running 'a smear campaign' to derail his confirmation," Sheryl Gay Stolberg reports. Notably, Sens. Murkowksi, Collins, and Flake are not featured in the story, having, apparently nothing to say at the moment.
This is all bluster intended for one audience member—Christine Blasey Ford. They are signaling to her they will be as nasty as they—or whatever woman they can find willing to do their dirty work in their stead—want to be in order to keep her from testifying. That's been the strategy from the get-go, from not giving her time to prepare to refusing to even consider an FBI investigation to telling her she would have to appear with Kavanaugh to not being able to present witnesses.
Republicans are painted into a corner on this and they know it. She is eminently believable and they know it. They also know Kavanaugh is a liar, and the public knows it. Kavanaugh is deeply unpopular with voters.
Well guess what, assholes, it's not working. Ford writes to Grassley: "While I am frightened, please know, my fear will not hold me back from testifying and you will be provided with answers."
Your move, assholes.
