My impression from various comments on diaries I write is that many, if not most Kossacks don't have Twitter accounts.
I do.
As you can see I have Tweeted 1,706 times (627 of these are links to my Kos diaries since Mar 23, 2016).
Here's why.
Boredom:
I’m a 74-year-old widower with no one to talk to until I head to the coffee shop in the morning. I’d much rather try to write a decent hopefully well-crafted essay as I enjoy putting my thoughts and ideas “on paper” to use a quaint outdated word. However, Twitter represents the Internet version of a haiku, limerick, or short poem and it can be a fun challenge to put an idea or message into 280 characters.
A Hopefully Healthy Ego:
Sometimes I get an idea or an interpretation of an event that I haven’t heard or read expressed anywhere and want to at least have it on Twitter just in case I want bragging rights. I’m probably always wrong. I rarely if ever think of something noteworthy before someone else does, witness yesterday's diary about Alyssa Milano, a story which another Kossack posted before I did.
I can also promote my own Kos stories (and stories by others who post on Daily Kos).
Sending kudos:
When I want to add my support to a writer or commentator I can send them a Tweet.
Try to send a message:
While if I want to send a message to Rachel Maddow it’s unlikely it will ever get to her. If you send a Tweet to someone less famous it is more likely they will read it. However Lawrence O’Donnell (or someone tracking his Twitter account) “liked” two or three of my Tweets to him. I Tweeted Thom Hartmann several times and he also “liked” those Tweets and when I called his show once he remembered that I was a duty to warn therapist who also attended Michigan State when he did.
Naysaying Trump:
You can also join the chorus of other progressives and even Republican anti-Trumpers sending Tweets to @DonaldJTrump.
Note that you don’t have to register on Twitter to read Tweets. In addition to being able to Tweet or comment on someone else’s Tweets, you must register to follow, like, or re-Tweet.
