If I had a dime for every time, I heard a pundit or surrogate label the President “authentic” I would have had enough to enroll at the now defunct Trump University and celebrate with a glass of Trump wine. On the other hand, for the worth of a Trump degree, I would be begging for money to buy a Big Mac; either that or win the college football National Championship and get a free one on a silver platter.
Despite the triviality of serving hamburgers to college football’s conquering champions, the real question goes to the label of “authenticity.” If gratuitous profanity, sexism, racism and the unwillingness to learn is authentic, I want no part of it. I looked up the definition of authentic, it reads, ‘of undisputed origin; genuine.’ The definition is followed by numerous synonyms—including, bona fide, true, legal and the real thing. What in that definition describes Mr. Trump? If my sons were here, they would say with a smirk, “ I’ll wait…”
Two months before the mid-term election the country was told of a diseased ridden caravan of terrorist and sexual predators. Two weeks ago, we were told a “national emergency” was happening on the border. The President’s chief military adviser General James Mattis resigned because he could not trust the word of his Commander-in-Chief. He[Trump] began his foray into presidential politics denying a birth certificate and announced his candidacy when he descended on an escalator to smear a larger group of people of color. Throughout the debasement of the office of the President, conservative panel member after conservative panel member, screaming surrogate after screaming surrogate and proxy liar after proxy liar told the country the President was elected because he is “authentic.”
Someone explain it to me…
The danger in ascribing nobility to the false authenticity of a blatant liar is, ‘what happens when a real problem occurs?’ Suppose there were hordes of armed invaders waving condoms and carrying lists of menial jobs to steal from hardworking Americans or Middle Eastern killers had flown to Guatemala and walked 2000 miles to the southern border. If those ridiculous descriptions brought a smile to your face it is because your common-sense gene kicked in. President Trump drives on the highway of his fantasies much too often and takes us into the ditch with him.
On the other hand, had John Kennedy been a continuous and proven liar how would the public have reacted to the Cuban Missile Crisis? The Ebola scare, during the Obama administration, may have escalated into bloody battles on America’s streets had we not believed the President had it under control. Countless numbers of times leaders have been called upon to calm a nation, redirect fear and TELL US THE TRUTH. Some have succeeded others have failed but all have counted on their veracity with the public to make a case. If Donald Trump told you a tax cut will benefit you and not the rich would you believe him, oh yeah, I forgot.
In the past two years, he has denied climate change with his withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord destroyed a chance to eliminate nuclear proliferation in Iran and in recent days we have heard rumors of his plans to attack Iran and withdraw from NATO. I wonder if President Trump even knows when he is lying?
