It took Donald Trump several days to come up with his “no-takesies-backsies nyah nyah I’m coming even though you don’t want me” letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi was quite a bit quicker in responding to Trump, but every bit as direct.
Since Trump made such a big deal of the fact that Pelosi had, on Jan. 3, sent him an invitation for a Jan. 29 State of the Union address, Pelosi opens by noting that “At that time, there was no thought that the government would still be shut down.” After all, Pelosi was just initiating a series of House votes aimed at reopening the government. Her letter sent last week was an attempt to “find a mutually agreeable date when government has re-opened,” Pelosi’s new letter goes on to say, “and I hope that we can still do that.”
And then, having observed the niceties, Pelosi gets to the point:
I am writing to inform you that the House of Representatives will not consider a concurrent resolution authorizing the President’s State of the Union address in the House Chamber until government has opened.
But in case Trump missed the point the first few times she made it, she closes with “Again, I look forward to welcoming you to the House on a mutually agreeable date for this address when government has been opened.”

Donald Trump is having himself quite the temper tantrum over this. A sampling, via pool report:
“The State of the Union has been cancelled by Nancy Pelosi because she doesn’t want to hear the truth.”
MS-13, blah blah, radical Democrats, blah blah.
Interestingly, Trump still doesn’t have one of his patented nasty nicknames for Pelosi: “Now Nancy Pelosi, or Nancy as I call her ...” Perhaps he thinks the fact that Nancy is a woman’s name is insult enough.
