Loyalty is a hell of a thing. You have to give it to get it. You have to be strong to earn it. And you have to use it wisely or it will disappear, or worse turn on you. That’s the real theme all of these gangster movies that the nation seems to love so much, plus of course the grisly grisly murders. There is no doubt that we are being served by a president with a gangster mindset. I’m starting to think, however, that he is more in danger of finding the proverbial horse head in his satin sheets than anyone else right now.
But first, a word from our sponsors ...

Did you know this was even a thing?
So I got to spend the better part of the week suffering with the flu. Thank you air travel. I got to the point where I could stand to be awake if I was in a hot bath by Friday morning and that tub was where I spent most of that day. Let me tell you, it can be very weird being in a tub while person after person makes Godfather II references to Frank Pantangeli. I mean, you know how it ended for him right?
(Hint: he commits suicide in the bathtub while Harry Dean Stanton plays cards in the other room)
Anyway, I don’t know what comes next in the grand game of political theater. The Stone indictment was a big step. The government shutdown is, temporarily at least, over. Pelosi seems to have the biggest stick in the ballpark.
If it weren’t for this flu, I might feel pretty damn good right now.
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.

In Mark Sumner’s Abbreviated Pundit Round-up today, Denise Oliver Velez commented how poorly history is taught. LimeyExpatDave had an absolutely brilliant response. The entire thread, starting here, is wonderful.
