Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and CIA Director Gina Haspel testified before Congress yesterday about a variety of threats to national security. From North Korea to election security, the top U.S. intel chiefs repeatedly contradicted the claims of Donald Trump. Perhaps most notable in their testimony was what was not said: The pair never once mentioned any threat along the southern border. The message was clear: There is no emergency or humanitarian crisis at the border.
House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to talk about the testimony, and he described precisely how it could be used to undermine the legal basis for any emergency declaration.
In short, Trump’s back is against the wall.
UPDATE: Angry at the coverage of the intel testimony, Trump is attempting to write a new narrative, insisting it did not contradict him. It did.
