New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has no problem defending fellow Democratic congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, the newly-elected representative for Michigan. Tlaib has received a lot of criticism for her remark to “impeach the motherf---er," in reference to President Donald Trump.
Tlaib made the comment at a reception on Thursday evening, and if you’ve followed her campaign, it isn’t anything surprising. A video of her comments went viral, and she’s faced criticism from both sides of the aisle. But Ocasio-Cortez isn’t having it.
Ocasio-Cortez first defended Tlaib’s comments in an interview with CNN Friday evening, saying, "I certainly think [impeachment is] a valid question and it's one that a lot of voters were interested in having in the run-up to the election," Ocasio-Coretz said. "It's a legitimate discussion to have."
Then she revisited the subject again on Saturday, to give a witty commentary on Twitter.
Her comments about “locker room talk” are obviously in reference to Trump’s disgusting comments from the leaked “Access Hollywood” tape about “grabbing women” by their genitals. When this audio leaked during his campaign, it did cause outrage, but (clearly) not enough to prevent him from being elected.
In a news conference on Friday, Trump accused Tlaib of having “dishonored her family” with her “disgraceful” comments. With an astounding lack of self-awareness, he also proclaimed, “you can’t impeach somebody that’s doing a great job.”
In an interview with CNN affiliate WDIV, Tlaib stuck to her sentiment, clarifying:
"I know that if I was a man it might have been differently. I know that, for me, I've always been this way. I mean, I think no one expects me to be anything but myself, the girl from southwest Detroit with a little sass and attitude."
"I think, you know, President Trump has met his match,” she continued. Further, her office added that “Donald Trump is completely unfit to serve as president. The Congresswoman absolutely believes he needs to be impeached. She ran and won by making this very clear to the voters in her district,” the statement
said.
At this point, who doesn’t want to see Trump impeached?
