This Saturday, I am volunteering at the Assembly District Election Meeting (ADEM) delegate election. I’m not old enough (14) to run in the election or even vote, but thought I’d help out anyway I can.
These delegates are very important, in that they are the “grassroots” of the California Democratic Party. They make up 1/3 of the governing body of the Party and have a huge impact of the direction of our Party. During their two-year term, ADEM delegates attend the annual state Democratic Conventions. At the conventions they elect Party officers and endorse candidates, resolutions, and ballot measures.
I truly believe that this election is very important for setting the agenda of our party. If I, the youngest member of Silicon Valley Kos, can take half of my weekend to help out, then surely you can take a couple hours out of your weekend to come vote for the ADEM delegates to represent your ideals.
Details below:
Each Assembly District will elect 14 Democrats* to be members of the Democratic State Central Committee Delegation for the 2019-2021 term. They will represent their Assembly District for both the 2019 and 2020 State Conventions.
*Pursuant to CDP Equal Division Rule, the 14 delegates to be elected at the ADEM are subject to equal division by gender. Gender shall mean one being either "self-identified female" or "other than self-identified female”.
