Impeachment—and Donald Trump’s unhinged response—continues to dominate the news. Truly there are too many news stories to remember. But other news keeps happening, too, and while we don’t have the bandwidth to go deep on everything, here are some of those stories:
● Nearly 50,000 workers at GM have been on strike for 17 days. The UAW and the company are negotiating, with the union offering a counterproposal to GM’s latest offer on Tuesday. Union negotiators said that last GM offer fell short on a number of issues, including a path to permanent employment for temp workers, pay, and health care. GM is estimated to have lost as much as $1 billion during the strike, while the workers are getting just $250 a week in strike pay.
● The Trump administration has proposed yet another cut to food aid, the third such proposal this year. This one would reduce the flexibility states have to set benefit levels. (Remember when Republicans believed in states’ rights?)
● A group of East Coast states released a carbon pricing plan to combat climate change while the Trump administration does everything it can to make the crisis worse.
● Don't forget the seven migrant children who have died after being taken into U.S. custody.
● Trump's violence against migrant families should also be a reason why he has to go.
● Sanders undergoes heart procedure, cancels next few days of campaign events. Best wishes to him for a full recovery.
● Louisiana governor points finger at Trump's tariffs as 400 steelworkers lose jobs.
● After Dayton and El Paso, lawmakers in Michigan and other states again push for red flag laws.
● Collins feted in big-dollar California fundraiser as 'hero of the Kavanaugh confirmation.'
● Senate Democrats ask IRS to investigate NRA and evaluate stripping NRA's tax exemption.
● North Korea launches ballistic missile from submarine, payload lands in waters off Japan.
● Several candidates spoke at a gun forum. Check out our coverage of Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, and Julián Castro.
